The Odeon
Built 1937
•Demolished 1974
The Odeon opened on 18th May 1938, with the first film shown being "Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel". The front of the building was the same as many other Odeon cinemas of the time; a striking art deco facade made up of large cream tiles and three tall windows to allow light into the foyer. Inside there was space for 920 in the stalls and 430 in the balcony.
In 1974 the cinema was taken over by Brentwood Council under compulsory purchase order as part of a large redevelopment that would ultimately create the Bay Tree Centre. It was demolished the same year.
